my competition

this is a pretty funny clip.  Especially if you know EXACTLY the version of the song this little girl is singing.   I've tried to play along with this intro as well, and I'm sure that I looked no less ridiculous than this.   Really the only difference between her and I is that my guitar was plugged in.  I like that she knows to make faces and move her head around.  That's how The Mayer does it.

Are babies "stupid?"

I had a pretty funny conversation last night... People wanted ideas for an anti-Valentine's Day t-shirt. One had a cupid on it. (You know - the naked infant with the bow?) I said that a funny caption might be "Babies are stupid." After the initial chuckles, someone said, "But babies aren't stupid." Then we had a solid 10 minute debate on whether or not babies are, in fact, stupid. They said that it wasn't fair to label a baby as 'stupid' as they don't know any better. I said, "Exactly - babies don't know shit." They said that wasn't fair, because they hadn't had a chance to learn anything yet. I replied "True - that's why I didn't say 'babies are idiots' or 'babies are morons.' Because its not their fault. They just don't know anything and have zero focus." So they had me look up 'stupid' in a dictionary: "lacking intellectual acuity" I thought that that was exactly what I was saying....

Honestly, it was just hilarious to be debating whether or not babies are stupid.

*edit* (I'm not trying to be mean to babies - I was just arguing the definition of 'stupid.' Disambiguating the word from the negative connotation that goes with it so often.)

A post on The Post

The Postmaster General is thinking about delivering the mail one less day a week. So you may not be getting your mail on Saturdays in the future. This is due to 'plummeting volumes' and posting a $2.8 million deficit last year.

Pres. Obama asked me for assistance on this problem. He wondered if I might be able to help out financially. I told him the check's in the mail....

You Found Me

Sometimes I hate The Fray. Sometimes I'm a huge fan. I'm usually a fan until the radio plays the song 45 times a day. Thanks, ClearChannel.

So this new single of theirs really caught my ear. I just love the first 45 seconds of the song. The simple piano (simple enough for me to learn it) and the cutting lyrics.

I found God
on the corner 1st and Amistad
where the west was all but won
all alone smokin his last cigarette
I said "where you been?"
he said, "ask anything."
WHERE WERE YOU
When everything was falling apart?
etc.
--------------------------------
I mentioned this lyric to Roscommon over the weekend and he brought up a very similar DMX lyric. (I know, I know... The Fray to DMX? Bear with me...) DMX's song basically said the same thing, and I like DMX's God's response to the question of why the protagonist only sees one set of footprints when shit was bad. "It was then I carried you, my son."

its all relative...

One of our favorite guest bloggers here at Love Is A Stream, Pablo Eskimobar, has a cousin who is currently being featured at a local school.  Don Paco de Vasquez grew up with Pablo.  They both are very well read and love to help the youth of the local community with their literacy skills.

Philanthropic Penguins.  Love it.

Better late than never...

I've been out for a few days - had a quick trip to the hospital - but don't think I didn't think this week was a big deal. I'm very excited about what the next few months have to offer. I've had no shame in my trust in Obama, and now I'm just sitting back and watching everything with a smile. He's already starting to kick ass and take names and this is only his 3rd day in office. I know that BO had a lot of hype around his campaign and inauguration, but honestly believe that he will produce results to match. No, maybe he won't fix the economy before summer. Maybe he won't put a man on Mars, but there are plenty of problems both foreign and domestic that need 'FIXED' and need fixed right now. We need to get back to our roots. The basics that this country was founded on, because we're getting away from it with our xenophobia and distrust of each other. Obama knows the founding documents better than most, I think he'll fix most of the blatantly un-American policies of the Bush Administration. The roads were being paved to become a police state (with good intentions, but the road to hell is paved the same way) and I hope to God that President Obama puts up a roadblock.

So this is the New Year?

"This is the first day of my life
swear I was born right in the doorway.
I went out in the rain suddenly everything changed
they're spreading blankets on the beach....
So if you wanna be with me
with these things there's no tellin
we'll just have to wait and see,
but I'd rather be workin for a paycheck
than waiting to win the lottery."
-----------------------------
"I've been lonely but I know I'll be okay,
good love is on they way"
-------------------------------
Bye bye, beautiful...
don't bother to write.
--------------------------------
i'll destroy this useless heart,
i'll fuck it up so it'll never beat again
not just for me but for anyone /
the lonliness building with each passing day
you never get used to it,
you just have to live with it...

More Anathallo

anathallo.  still one of the top 5 best live shows I've ever seen.  because of stuff like this.  Wait through the quiet buildup and japanese poetry.  The bass drummer and floor tom guy are both playing a really complicated rythem in perfect sync.  1:29 is especially cool....

This next song isn't the best quality audio, but its a great portrayal of the band. Dynamic doesn't quite do it justice. Library-quiet intros, huge crecendos...
If you've got the patience, watch this video. My favorite part starts at 4:40 - look how into it the entire band is (all 8 of them) especially at the "who could imagine a holiday (A HOLIDAY!) at the sea!" part.
