No - its not about the Big Bopper. Its worse.
The White Stripes announced their break-up this week. To me - its worse. I'm not sure I've taken a band break-up this hard before. I've had relationship breakups that didn't make me this sad.
The White Stripes just kicked ass. That's really the best way to describe it. Raw fuzz, simple chord progression and song structure, simple drums, and just insane amounts of energy to fill that space.

Yes, i've been reading obits, wailings, and tear-stained blog posts all over the interweb this week.
I love them too. Not nearly as much or as passionately as you but they did give me my #1 album of '05, and they've garnered a few other mentions on my blog too.
BUT...
I do respect their statement ("The reason is not due to artistic differences or lack of wanting to continue, nor any
health issues as both Meg and Jack are feeling fine and in good health.
It is for a myriad of reasons, but mostly to preserve what is beautiful and special about the band and have it stay that way."), and, caboose, I know you have made the comment several times that you don't want 311 to keep putting out records if they blow. The white stripes weren't putting out duds, to be sure, but it is better to go out with class and image intact then to fade and decompose into mediocrity.
“The White Stripes do not belong to Meg and Jack anymore. The White Stripes belong to you now and you can do with it whatever you want. The beauty of art and music is that it can last forever if people want it to. Thank you for sharing this experience. Your involvement will never be lost on us and we are truly grateful.”
btw....nice to see a new post!!!!!!
ah yes, heard this on 105.1 the other day and immediately thought of you. i am so sorry for your loss my friend. at least they went out on top!
